The Kansas City BBQ

Kansas the center of the BBQ universe
The center of the BBQ universe is supposed to be right in the middle of the US.
Kansas City BBQ is said to have begun in the early 1900's. I have been to KC only once but I am getting ready to go back soon. I loved this this BBQ cause of the variety of meats they use and the sweet but very tangy sauce that is slathered on in generous amounts. I was ther for a 4 day trip over the 4th of July weekend a few years ago. I must have had BBQ at least 10 times in those 4 days. I first started with a little local dive that was near my hotel room near the city of Blue Springs, the locals said it was a nice tangy bbq with low prices. I got some burnt ends some links and of course some pulled pork and after I was done eating there I had to of course take some back to the room for a little snack at night.
I then went into Kansas City and ate BBQ from both sides, Missouri and Kansas. I will have to say that they definately load on the BBQ and the prices are so amazing, this may not have been the best BBQ I ever ate but this was definately the best assortment and the cheapest BBQ. I still can remember my plate overflowing with warm delicious BBQ.
I then went to see a revolutionary type of reenactment and it was a nice thing to see given the holiday and the nice warm weather. I had some self made lemonade that was served at a table for a dollar which hit the spot in the warm weather and to help cleanse my palate. Afterwards went into the city to listen to some music and of course eat more BBQ while waiting for evening to enjoy the fireworks.
One night I went to a nice restaurant in the city near the expressways the decor was like a mountain lodge. timbers high ceilings, large game heads on walls. This place had so much to offer. I had a rib sampler it was pork, lamb, beef, and buffalo. I also had some sort of sausage and some side dishes it was a good meal a little expensive compared to the rest of the places I had been but this was a fancier place in the downtown area so that is to be expected.
So if you have the chance to go to Kansas city please go. When you go keep an open mind and try all the different types of BBQ that KC has to offer. This trip will open your mind and mouth to the world of BBQ.
